Professional Tax Calculator
Estimate state-wise professional tax from verified slab packs — unsupported states are not invented.
Only states with verified data (or confirmed no-PT) appear. Others are unsupported.
Used for Maharashtra gender-specific nil slabs.
Some states charge a higher amount in February to meet the annual cap.
Professional tax is levied by states, not the Centre. This calculator looks up verified slab packs only. If your state is missing, we show an unsupported message instead of inventing a rate. Confirm figures with your State Commercial Tax / Profession Tax portal before payroll use. Data is not auto-updated.
What is professional tax?
A state-level tax on professions, trades, and employment. Salaried employees usually see it deducted from salary. The constitutional annual cap is ₹2,500 per person.
How is professional tax calculated?
Your monthly (or half-yearly) salary is matched to the state’s verified slab table. The result shows the periodic tax, monthly equivalent, and an annual estimate.
Which states levy professional tax?
Many states do (e.g. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh). Some (e.g. Delhi, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, Goa in our pack) do not. Unsupported states are listed as unavailable until verified data is added.
How often is professional tax deducted?
Usually monthly. Tamil Nadu (and some others) assess on a half-yearly basis — this tool converts half-year tax to a monthly equivalent.
How are state-specific slabs applied?
Regulatory data (state, slabs, frequency, effective dates, source) is stored separately from the formula. The engine only uses verified packs — it never invents missing rates.
