Government job applications look intimidating but they are procedural. Get the paperwork, deadlines and portal login right and you will clear the first cut of every recruitment.
The documents you need scanned and ready
- Photograph and signature in the exact size / dpi mentioned in the notification.
- Class 10 and 12 mark sheets.
- Graduation degree and consolidated marksheet.
- Aadhaar, PAN and one address proof.
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) with issue date within the window.
- Employment certificates (if any).
Portal walkthrough (SSC / UPSC / IBPS / RRB)
Each recruiter has its own portal but the flow is the same: register once, log back in for each notification, fill the form, upload documents, pay the fee, print the confirmation. Save the registration number and password in a password manager.
Deadlines and the one-week rule
Never apply on the last day. Portals crash. Aim to finish 5–7 days before the deadline and use the last week only to correct errors flagged by the portal.
Common reasons applications are rejected
- Photo/signature wrong size.
- Category certificate outside validity window.
- Details mismatch between form and documents.
- Age criteria miscalculated as on the cut-off date.
- Payment successful but confirmation not saved.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit a submitted application?
Most portals allow a correction window of 3–7 days after form close. Watch the notification for exact dates.
Do I need to pay for every category separately?
Yes. Each notification and each post has its own fee. Category-based fee exemptions apply where notified.
